Oleksiy Shovkunenko

Since my youth, I was attracted to the figure of a human being.

He was born in 1884 in Kherson. He received his art education at the Odesa Art School (1908) and the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1917).
The artist's works are distinguished by his favor for portraits and colorful landscapes. A vivid expression of reality and an individual approach are what impresses Shovkunenko's works to this day.
Shovkunenko's works are kept in numerous museums, galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. The Kherson Art Museum (1984) was named after the artist, whose collection included 154 works by the artist before the war.
